Collecting and Recollecting: Contemporary Quilts in Western India Closing

Discover the Vibrant Quilts of Western India at Our Latest Exhibition, Collecting and Recollecting

Immerse yourself in the artistry and heritage of quilts crafted by talented artisans from Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. This traveling exhibition from the International Quilt Museum is the result of an extraordinary collaboration with researchers from diverse backgrounds. Together, they have discovered, documented, and acquired quilts that reflect the distinctive cultural identities of these three regions.

These stunning textiles, created for both practical and personal reasons, not only showcase intricate craftsmanship but also offer a glimpse into the daily lives, traditions, and individuality of their makers. Through this partnership, we bring you an array of quilts that celebrate the rich stories and heritage woven into every piece.

Join us to explore the beauty, creativity, and captivating narratives behind these remarkable works of art.

Collecting and Recollecting is presented with support from the Bernard H. & Blanche E. Jacobson Foundation, Daywood Foundation, Elliot Family Foundation, Fund for the Arts, and Herscher Foundation, Inc.

The Clay Center’s performing and visual arts offerings are presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.

This exhibit is free with museum admission.
