Charly Jupiter Hamilton Gallery Listen & Documentary Screening

Charly Jupiter Hamilton Gallery Listen & Documentary Screening

It’s an afternoon honoring Charleston artist Charly Jupiter Hamilton at the Clay Center!

First, join Jeff Pierson, director for the Office of Public Art, and Liz Simmons, curator for the Juliet Art Museum, as they moderate a community conversation about Charly’s artwork. Instead of a gallery talk, this gallery “listen” is sure to evoke fond memories for Charly’s friends, neighbors, and appreciators of his art, all while sitting immersed in his retrospective exhibition.

Then, stay for a screening of the HBO documentary “Our Towns” featuring Charly! Based on the bestselling book, this film looks at how small towns and cities respond to setbacks to find their way forward. Jeff Pierson and Bob Coffield will introduce the film and how it came to include Charleston and Charly as subjects.

Pre-registration to speak is strongly encouraged by emailing JulietArtMuseum@theclaycenter.org. Join us as we celebrate, remember, and honor Charly!

This program is free with museum admission!

This program is presented with support from the Bernard H. & Blanche E. Jacobson Foundation, Charles & Mary Fayne Glotfelty Foundation, Daywood Foundation, Elliot Family Foundation, Fund for the Arts, and Herscher Foundation, Inc.

The Clay Center’s performing and visual arts offerings are presented with financial assistance from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture, and History, and the National Endowment for the Arts, with approval from the West Virginia Commission on the Arts.
