As part of our Explore and Soar program, the participating schools will host special community education events throughout the year. These programs are for adults and students interested in learning new things or perhaps brushing up on their skills.
Meet the Artist
Parents at each of our Explore and Soar sites had the chance to meet School Sculpture artist Kevin Reese and to see their child’s artistic achievement as we dedicated each of our school sculptures. Several parents took advantage of this chance to say hello to the artist who worked at each site for a week, teaching students not only about art, but making connections to math, science and engineering, as they worked together to create a permanent school sculpture.
ATV Safety Talks
Special thanks to Mark Whitt from West Virginia University Extension Service 4-H Youth Development program for presenting his informative sessions dealing with ATV Safety. From helmets to good riding etiquette, Mark answered questions and gave instructions and tips to help keep us all safe.
Financial Literacy with BB&T
Our first community education sessions took place at each of our sites in late March and early April, in partnership with BB&T Banking of Danville. Mr. Joseph Raymond, a Vice President for BB&T, and Ms. Linda Pezzuto-lemon discussed the ins and outs of finance with students and adults. Topics included the importance of saving money, career paths and how to open checking and savings accounts.
Keep checking back for more programs on interesting topics such as hunting safety, tax assistance, first aid and more!
