What is the Plan?
The proposed Kanawha County Cultural Plan represents two years of gaining and digesting information from a wide variety of stakeholders in the area. Led by a steering committee made up of local arts group representatives, it has been developed as a guide to help Kanawha County expand and take advantage of its numerous cultural assets. The plan will be used by various groups and agencies to move forward with a united purpose as Kanawha County’s cultural life grows.
Who sponsored the Plan?
Funding for the Kanawha County Cultural Plan was provided by the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation. "We have so many wonderful cultural opportunities in our community. A documented cultural plan will highlight and promote all aspects of the community's arts and culture," said Sheri L. Ryder, Program Officer of the Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation.
What is the vision of the Plan?
The City of Charleston is a vibrant growing community which celebrates its cultural diversity and multi-generational personality through the arts.
What are the major goals of the Plan?
The goals of the Cultural Plan have been divided into five general areas, with more specific recommendations under these goals:
Identity & Marketing: Market the area as a cultural destination.
Education & Community Outreach: Engage the education system with the cultural community and improve communication.
Business & Economic Development: Engage the business industry in Kanawha County with the arts and cultural community.
Physical Planning: Ensure that facilities in the area support the ongoing goals of the cultural plan.
